Regional Support Center for Latin America and the Caribbean of The Global Compact of the United Nations

The Regional Center for Latin America and the Caribbean in Support of the United Nations Global Compact is an initiative launched in 2009 to strengthen the sustainable development agenda in Latin America through the participation of the private sector.

Constituted under the Memorandum of Understanding between the Government of the Republic of Colombia and the United Nations, the Regional Center is an office with a regional mandate aimed at achieving the practical implementation of various United Nations initiatives, including the Global Compact, from Of the conditions of Latin America and the Caribbean.

This office works with strategic actors and facilitates, through its platform, the exchange of reference practices between companies in this and other regions of the world.

Throughout its operation the Regional Center has contributed to position the conversation between the business sector and United Nations through the articulation of a regional agenda of public-private sustainability to generate solutions that involve different instances.

The partners of the Center are leaders in sustainability with operations in Latin America and the Caribbean, including: Argos Group, Grupo Hame, Progreso Group, Cerrejón, Grupo Bolívar, Telefónica, Bogotá Energy Group, ISA, AB InBev, Andesco, National Business Association of Colombia (ANDI) and International Organisation of Employers (IOE).

Since 2011, the Regional Center for Latin America and the Caribbean in support of the United Nations Global Compact has organized the Global Compact Business Forum in Latin America and the Caribbean: Responsibility and Sustainability, which aims to address the state of the art of sustainability within the region. The summit promotes the articulation of a public-private agenda for the implementation of different United Nations initiatives, including the Global Compact Principles.

For each edition of the Forum the Regional Center identifies and selects a key topic for the Latin American private sector, and works with strategic allies of the host country to organize the summit. The event´s agenda devotes one section to business best practices and another to present the work of the Global Compact´s Local Networks.

The previous editions have been held in Mexico, Peru (twice), Colombia, Argentina and Chile. The event brings together a broad international audience, including decision makers and business leaders with operations in Latin America.
